Hua Hin Beaches

Hua Hin Amphur (district) is in the province of Prachuab Kiri Khan on the east coast of Thailand over looking the Gulf of Thailand. The coast of Hua Hin is streches the length of the Amphur. It starts North of Hua Hin at the Hua Hin Amphur border with Cha-Am (the Hua Hin Airport) and stretches south all the way to Pranburi. There are many beaches in Hua Hin with a wide range of attractions and activities.

Hua Hin Beach

huahinhiltonrocksThe main, busy and nicest part of Hua Hin beach starts outside of the Hilton Hotel Hua Hin and  spans over 5km all the way to Khao Takieb. This part of Hua Hin beach is walking distance from the busy center of Hua Hin Town. This is also where Hua Hin gets it's name. Hua meaning head and Hin Meaning stone, Head Stone, from the large rock formations on the beach outside of the Hilton and Sofitel Hotels.

This part of Hua Hin beach is a wide and soft white sandy beach even with high tides. There are many hotels that are right on Hua Hin beach here including the Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa, Sofitel Centara Grand Resort and Villas, Hua Hin Marriott Grand Resort and Spa the Hyatt Regency and many others that have loungers, swimmings pools and seating areas next to the beach.

Hua Hin Beach Restaurants

huahinbeachrestaurantThere are also many restaurants and seating areas along this part of Hua Hin beach with umbellers for shade with deck chairs and sun loungers available for rent. Deck chair rental is from 20 Baht and 50 Baht for the sun loungers. If you don't fancy renting then take a long a beach towel or a mat to sit on as the beach is so long there is always some secluded spot on the beach to have a sunbath.

If your hungry you do not have to walk far to find something to eat as there are many restuarants on Hua Hin beach from the 5 star hotel restuarants at the Hilton and Sofitel to the small locally owned Thai restaurants serving both good Thai and western foods at cheap prices with a picturesque sea view. If you are to lazy to even get up and walk to a restuarant don't worry as there are many beach venders selling an assortment of foods from som tam, bbq chicken, corn on the cob and also fruits and ice cream.

Hua Hin Beach Activities

If you are bored and you want something to do other than sunbathing and eating while at the beach in Hua Hin there are many things to choose from.

Water Sports and Activities at Hua Hin Beach

huahinbeachjetskiFor some water fun at Hua Hin Beach there are Jet Ski's available for rent that seat either 1 or 2 people so you can practise your freestyle moves or just ride up and down Hua Hin beach at high speeds. If you are with friends go on a banana boat ride, a long banana shaped sled that gets pulled by a Jet Ski as you try to hang on without falling off. Or try a doughnut ride, rent a kayak or have a go at wakeboarding.

You might also like a go at  kiteboarding / kitesurfing. There are 4 kiteboarding schools on Hua Hin beach where you can get professional training for beginners as well as intermediate riders. They have all of the equipment needed available to rent as well as instuctors to get you riding those waves.

There are other things to occupy yourself while at Hua Hin beach that do not require you going in the ocean. There are horses available for rent of various sizes. The horse owners will take you or your littluns for a guided gentle walk down the beach on horse back or for the more seasoned horse rider you can go galloping off by yourself down the beach.

Khao Takieb Beach

Khao Takieb beach is at the south end of Hua Hin beach next to Khao Takieb (Chopstick Mountain). Khao Takieb beach is over 5km from the Sofitel entrance to Hua Hin beach and is a nice walk along the beach. There are hotels and a few beach restaurants here. The seafood restaurants are especially good due Khao Takieb being a fishing village. Many local fishing boats are moored in the harbour next to Khao Takieb hill.

19 Rai Hua Hin Beach

Alittle further north of Hua Hin Beach after Klai Kang Won (the Royal Palace) is what is known as 19 Rai or the Queen Sirikit Park Hua Hin. Easy to get to from either Soi 35 or Soi 19 on the Phetchkasem Road going north about 2km from Hua Hin town center.

The beach here is very quiet and on low tides is great for a long walk away from the crowds in Hua Hin, during the week you will probably find you are the only people there. On high tides the ocean comes up to the sea wall.

There are a few large hotels here, the Imperial Hotel Hua Hin and the new Rest Detail Hotel, just finished and opened in 2008. Rest Detail Hotel has rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors which have jacuzzi's on the terrace facing the sea, they also have villas with private pools and bunglows.

Also at 19 Rai Hua Hin there is a garden area next to the beach where it is nice to bring a mat and have sit down in the shade of the trees during the day or enjoy a drink and some food of a night-time. There are always a few Thai food venders here, more on the weekends and on some Friday nights there is live music from a local band.

Suan Son Pradipat Beach Hua Hin

Located on the other side of Khao Takieb about 8km south of Hua Hin town is Suan Son Pradipat beach meaning Sea Pine Tree Garden Beach. Much quieter than it's neighbour Hua Hin beach but not without it's own charms. The beach and the adjoining land is owned by the Thai Army Welfare Office.

At the north end of Suan Son Pradipat beach nearest Khao Takieb there are many beach restaurants and a few hotels such as the Anantasila Hua Hin hotel. Here you can rent sunloungers or deckchairs shaded by beach umbrellas. You can also rent Jet Ski's, play on banana boats or go for a horse ride.

Further south on the beach on the land owned by the Thai Military there is a large hotel and some bungalows available for rent originally only for use by military personel and their families but they are now available to the public. There is also a restaurant on the beach and deck chairs, tables and unbrellas for rent. This part of the beach is popular with Thai people on the weekends.

Suan Son Beach is over 6km long stretching all the way from Khao Takieb to Khao Tao (Turtle Hill). The beach hasn't the soft white sand as Hua Hin beach but it is never busy and most of the beach is lined with sea pine trees and is mostly free from developments and hotels. The water is shallow and you can walk far out from the beach into the ocean before reaching any depth, ideal for children to play in.

In 2009 construction of a golf course next to Suan Son Beach beach was started.
